1. Connect ‘Y’ splitter cable to device: 8-way mini-DIN to SP5000device, 9-way D-type socket to PC COM1 and leave power jack disconnected. Plug the power supply unit into mains supply and switch-on (note the red LED on PSU illuminated indicates power supply active). 2. Connect power supply to power jack socket on ‘Y’ splitter lead. 3. The terminal now has power - indicated by greed indicator illuminated on top of device. 4. The device will begin boot sequence. 5. As soon as you see “PayWare SMART” logo (mid-way through boot sequence) press the ‘9’ key (you have one second in which to do this otherwise will have to re-boot and try again). 6. Device will now load auto-application-download scripts and will be waiting for first file install.tgz. 7. Start HyperTerminal on PC. 8. Create a new connection for COM1. 9. Configure connection properties to 115,200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and flow control disabled. 10. Start connection and press ENTER. 11. Download “install.tgz”* file using “zmodem with crash recovery” protocol in Hyperterminal window. *Select ‘Transfer’ from tool bar, then ‘send file’ from drop-down menu, browse from send file window, select file, click ‘open’ button, select ‘zmodem with crash recovery’ protocol then click ‘send’ button. 12. Download “install.sig”* file using “zmodem with crash recovery” protocol in Hyperterminal window.
